1. Thank you for joining me here at All the Cores and More! Would you please introduce yourself and what you do in the band?
My name is Jason David Sipe. I sing and play guitar in Salvation.
2. How would you describe your sound to someone who hasn’t heard the band yet? What are the primary influences that inform your sound?
Freedom, sonic expression, blues, punk, rock and roll, noise, delta wave.
We are influenced by everything we experience. I'd say the desire to express ourselves honestly and with true release and connection is our main influence. Freedom. Equity. Truth. Love. Humor. Respect. Humility. Confidence. Art. Expression. Music.
3. You’re on LP number five with The Haunted (out October 16th via Reptilian Records). How did your previous experiences writing and recording shape the process this go-around?
It all collectively contributed and finding balance with creating art with others grows with time. I've enjoyed this collaboration immensely and I look forward to what this contributes to in the future.
4. Without any major spoilers, what can listeners expect with The Haunted?
A musical expression and call to complete freedom of expression and connection.
And a good laugh.
5. How would you say your local environment shapes your sound and musical approach?
It inspires us to be surrounded by what seems like a never-ending sea of artists and musicians striving to create and move the pendulum forward. Also caring about the impact and importance of the impact we are fortunate enough to have, so we strive for honest, inspiring creation and connection.
6. What have been some of the major highlights of the band’s existence so far? What about any lowlights that you can either look back on and laugh or perhaps were great lessons for you moving forward?
Highlights: playing with so many artists it would be pointless to name one and not all ... but the caliber of musicianship and the craft in many forms of expression... as well as the amount of artists surrounding us is unbelievable.
Lowlights: the struggles become the things we laugh about later. Never give up.
7. I’m always curious as to how people get into heavy and alternative music. It’s always a journey. What did yours look like?
Family: Sabbath, AC/DC, Zep, Nirvana... then I kept digging.
8. Do you ever think about things like legacy with Salvation?
Legacy... yes. I intend to leave a legacy of truth and I intend to give everything to it. I trust our music will continue to grow in more powerful ways of impacting the world in the right way and feeding our desire to create. It's also a welcome journey to try and contribute in a worthy and impactful way. I look forward to it.
9. Where are some places to play (venues, cities, states, and/or countries) you haven’t played yet that you’d love to? What about bands you haven’t shared a stage with yet that are on your “bucket list”?
I'd like to play with endless artists, but I'd love to share the stage with Neil Young, Fiona Apple, Sonic Youth, Melvins, Sunday Day Real Estate, and Al Green, to name a few. I haven’t seen Japan, Italy, Brazil, Africa... we want to see the world.
10. Last question, one of my favorites: you’re stranded on a desert island and can only have five albums with you. Which ones would they be?
Beatles-Revolver

Black Sabbath-Black Sabbath
Stooges-Fun House
Any Etta James; some best of, with a bootleg of Nina Simone’s “Lilac Wine” and Lead Belly’s “In The Pines.” And pirate radio signal from a classical station.
