1. Welcome to All the Cores and More! Would you please introduce yourself and what you do in the band?
Hi we are Electron, a modern metal band originally from Portugal and now based in London. Jason plays guitar and sings lead vocals, and Joanna plays bass.
2. What’s the backstory around your move to London?
(Joanna) We both moved here when we were only 18 to study and follow our dreams. To me, living in London at some point in my life was always in my plans, and eventually I decided to take a bold step into the music industry as well.
3. When and how did Electron form?
(Joanna) Before we formed Electron, I was playing with Jason in his solo project. I started to feel like I wanted to be more involved, and that eventually became who we are now.
4. You’ve just announced that your new album Is This Worth Living For? produced by Grammy-nominated Romesh Dodangoda (Nova Twins, Bring Me the Horizon), will be coming out on October 2nd. What was the writing process for the record like?
(Jason) We started writing songs for this record since the release of our EP Hollow. I feel like it documents well the life experiences we’ve been through, changes in our growth as humans, and we wanted to have a record that was also inspired by literature and other art forms, rather than just music. Each song began with a feeling, something we wanted to put out, and throughout a year, started to get more shape towards these arrangements that you can hear now. It was a lot of hard work, because we wanted to push ourselves to evolve as songwriters and as musicians, and we’re very proud of how everything turned out to be. I think this record is our most consistent one, from top to bottom so far.
5. What was it like recording with Romesh?
(Joanna) Romesh is extremely professional and skilled at what he does. But above all that, he makes you feel at ease and comfortable when you’re recording. I always feel like I learn so much when we record with him and that’s something I value a lot. He makes us truly value not only the finished product but also the journey to it.
6. You’ve released the single “Toxic” from the record. What can you tell us about this track?
(Jason) “Toxic” addresses how social media is negatively influencing our lives, controlling us, and we need to take charge, regain control again. It was a track that came along really quick, very spontaneous, and the goal was to keep it simple and as raw as possible in the studio. I believe it represents well how an Electron live show would sound like.
7. How do you feel your sound has evolved from the beginning to now?
(Jason) We’re still very young, and from the first record we can see this long journey already, and how we became a bit more mature and experienced musicians and songwriters. We decided to do something a bit more conceptual, in a way that there was a theme, and the songs had to serve the theme, kind of like a book and its chapters. It was the first time we attempted to do something like that, and it really helped us taking the next step and consolidating our sound.
8. What have been the major highlights of the band’s existence so far?
(Joanna) Playing in Portugal in 2022 and 2025 were amazing experiences for both of us, I believe. For both times, we played in Jason’s and my hometown consecutively, and it’s an indescribable feeling to play at home. I also loved the feeling of the first time we got out of London to play in Leicester, and the memories of the 2024 Hollow tour.
9. What current bands or artists would you most want to share the stage with that you haven’t yet?
(Joanna) House of Protection, Spiritbox, Skindred, Bad Omens, The Pretty Reckless are my current favourites, although I have a long list.
